Determination of trace amount of aluminium in water samples by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry with cloud point extraction

A new method for the determination of trace amount of aluminium in water by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry with cloud point extraction was proposed.The effect of experimental conditions such as pH and concentration of reagents on cloud point extraction and determination sensitivity was discussed and optimized.Under the optimum conditions,pre-concentration of only 40 mL of sample in the presence of 0.125% Triton X-114 permitted the detection of 0.045 μg/L(3σ) for aluminium with the enhancement factor of 78.5.The method has been applied to the determination of aluminium in water samples with satisfactory recoveries.
