Advances and trend of capillary GC chromatographic columns in recent two years

FU Ruo-nong (Chemistry Department, Beijing Institute of technology, Beijing 100081)  
The recent advances and trend of capillary gas chromatographic columns were reviewed. Because of the field of GC column technology is still considered a mature science, it leads to relatively few research programs being active in this area In the research of stationary phases, the room temperature ionic liquids continues its development and modified cyclodextrins were another project of GC stationary phases studied. In recent years the investigation of gas chromatographic columns were carried out by manufactories and quickly turn into markets. Today a lot of chromatographers prefer to use commercial capillary GC columns rather than the home made one. More than 50% used capillary GC columns were coated with 5% phenyl polydimethylsiloxane. The commonly used apolar capillary GC columns were coated with 100% methyl polysiloxane. The polar capillary GC columns used in the application were mostly coated with PEG, OV-17 and OV-1701.
