Simultaneous determination of hydroquinone and catechol by differential pulse stripping voltammetry

A new poly taurine modified glassy carbon electrode was prepared.A sensitive method(DPSV) for simultaneous determination of trace hydroquinone(HQ) and catechol(CC) was developed by differential pulse stripping voltammetry.In NaAc-HAc buffer solution(pH4.6),at an enrichment potential of-0.400V(vs SCE),two sensitive anodic stripping peaks appear respectively at about at 0.157V and 0.262V.The linear relationship between peak current and HQ and CC concentrations were obtained in the range of 8.00×10-6~1.00×10-8mol/ L,and the detection limit(S/N=3) was 4.00×10-9mol/L.The method was used for electrocatalytic determination of HQ and CC in water samples,and the average recoveries were 99.8%~101.6% and 99.2%~104.5%,respectively.In addition,reaction mechanism was preliminary studied by cyclic voltammetry.The results showed that electron and proton transfer numbers of HQ and CC were 2,and a values were 0.49 and 0.48,respectively.
