Study on measurement of nitrate and nitrite by ion chromatography in international comparison

The contents of nitrate and nitrite at a level of 1 g /kg in calibration solutions from CCQM-K59 comparison were determined by ion chromatography after dilution.High purities of potassium nitrate and sodium nitrite were used as standards in order to get low uncertainties,good accuracy and repeatability.Ion chromatography and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry were used to determine main anions and inorganic element impurities,respectively.The purities of potassium nitrate and sodium nitrite were calculated by normalization method.The masses of KNO3 and NaNO2 for standard solution were corrected by buoyancy during weighing,and one point calibration and bracket method were used to determine the contents of NO3- and NO2- by ion chromatography.The contents were 1.0172 g /kg and 1.0139 g /kg with the relative expand uncertainties of 0.11% and 0.13% for NO3- and NO2-,respectively.The degrees of equivalence of NO3- and NO2- showed that NIM has good ability in the anion determination and traceability.
