Temperature-sensitive modification of PET fabrics by low temperature plasma

Temperature-sensitive smart textile was prepared by plasma-induced graft polymerization of poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide)(PNIPAAm) hydrogel onto PET fabric.The water permeation time and molecular structure as well as morphology of the fabric in wet and dry states were analyzed to characterize the structure and propertie changes before and after the graft modification.The relationship between weight gain rate and ″switching effect″ was investigated.The results showed that the PNIPAAm monomers were introduced onto the fabrics′ surface and the water permeation time of the grafted PET fabric showed a sharp increase around 32 ℃,which exhibited obvious temperature-sensitivity.When the weight gain ratio is 20.1%,the best ″switching effect″ can be obtained.
