Genetic Analysis and SSR Tagging of Gossypol Glands and Gossypol Content of Upland Cotton

Two F 2 populations derived from the forward and reverse cross between Ji668 and ZYS25 were used to study the genetics of the gossypol glands and gossypol content of upland cotton. Chi-square test indicate that the segregate ratio between gossypol gland plants and glandlessness plants is accord with 3∶1 in F 2 populations, the gene conferring the gossypol glands was quality character and cortroled by single dominant gene. The gossypol gland numbers and gossypol contents are different based on testing the leaves on top of cotton plants in different developmental stages. Statistic analysis suggested that the segregate frequency of two traits be matched for normal distribution,therefore we have concluded that the traits of gossypol gland numbers and contents genes are quantitative characters and controlled by ploygene. Based on the BSA (Bulk Segregate Analysis) technique, an SSR markers were obtained which linked to gossypol gland character, genetic distances were 2.4cM.
