Mapping QTLs for Yield and its Component Traits of Rice Using a Recombinant Inbred Line Population

A linkage map consisting of 177 SSR (simple sequence repeat) markers was constructed based on a recombinant inbred line (RIL) population from the cross between Zhenshan97 and SLG. Quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping was carried out for yield and its component traits in 2003. Based on composite interval mapping method, 38 QTLs were detected. Each of the main-effect QTLs individually explained 6.6% to 32.9% of the phenopytic variations. And they collectively explained 21.3% to 79.5% of the phenotypic variations for these traits. Many of the traits shared same QTLs with each other, which is consistent with their significant phenotypic correlations.
