Effect of Transgenic PPase Gene on Potato Inorganic Pyrophosphatase Activity and Inorganic Phosphorus Content

The inorganic pyrophosphatase (PPase) activity and optimum condition of its determination, and the content of inorganic phosphorus (Pi) of transgenic potato plants with sense and antisense PPase gene were investigated. The results indicated that the optimum pH of PPase activity was 8.0, the optimum temperature was 42℃, and the best divalent cation was Mg2+. The PPase activity and the content of Pi in the leaves were higher than that in the stems and the growing minitubers. The PPase activity and the content of Pi in the minitubers stored for three months were lower than that in the growing minitubers. The PPase activity and the content of Pi was increased in the sense transgenic plants and decreased in the antisense transgenic plants compared with the untransgenic plants.
