QTL Analysis of Rice Stigma Morphology Using an Introgression Line from Oryza Longistaminata L.

The stigma traits played an important role in hybrid rice seed production.To understand the genetic basis of stigma traits associated with the mating system in rice,we analyzed seven traits of stigma,including stigma length(STL),stigma breadth(STB),style length(SYL),length of style and stigma(SSL),percentage of single exserted stigma(PSES),percentage of dual exserted stigma(PDES) and percentage of total exserted stigma(PES),using an F2 population derived from a cross between G46B,an indica rice(Oryza sativa),and T821B,an introgression line from Asian cultivated rice(Oryza sativa) and wild rice(Oryza Longistaminata).A total of 22 quantitative trait loci(QTLs) affecting stigma traits were detected on chromosomes 1,2,3,6,7,9 and 12.Of them,qPES-9 and qPDES-9 were major QTLs for PES and PDES with LOD scores of 22.61 and 16.71 and explained 76.60% and 40.82% of the phenotypic variance.And also the T821B allele contributed an increasing effect at these two loci.These QTLs may be useful in marker-assisted selection for developing male sterile lines with high outcrossing.
