INFLUENCE OF SOFTENING-MELTING ZONE ON THE HARD DRIVING OF BLAST FURNACE

Authors of the paper,based upon model experiments,have investigated different profiles,positions of softening-melting zone in the blast furnace,which influence gas-distribution and utilization of energy of gas.Coke slits between softening-melting layers have better permeability for gas and gas flow through it easily.To keep a proper profile of softening-melting zone will form an optimum distribution of coke slits,which will decrease the pressure drop in blast furnace,advantageous to increase intensity,and to promote hard driving.The profile of inverse V-shaped softening-melting zone is advantageous to dredge gas path in central part of furnace and helpful to keep central gas flow open,in order to form"dendritic"distribution of stream lines from bottom to top.This will make the work of hearth to be uniform,active and stable.This profile will be also advantageous to increase intensity,to improve the utilization of energy of gas and to get high quality pig iron.When the top layer of inverse V-shaped softening-melting zone appears in higher position,the pressure drop in the furnace will be decreased and advantageous to increase wind rate and smelting intensity; but at the same time,the indirect reduction zone will be contracted.When the top layer of inverse V-shaped softening melting zone appears in lower position,the indirect reduction zone will be spread but in the mean time pressure drop will be increased and excessive peripheral gas flow will be developed.Optimum position of softening-melting zone depends upon comprehensive conditions in operation,generally,such a position is good to start from lower part of the furnace shaft.
