Coal-based Low-temperature Metallurgy

ZHAO Pei,GUO Peimin(Central Iron and Steel Research Institute,Beijing 100081)  
Blast furnace process and smelting reduction pr oc ess, categorized as high-temperature metallurgy, have features of high energy c onsumption and serious pollution It is difficult to develop gas-based direct reduction processes due to poor gas resources in China Also, the development o f coal-based direct reduction processes (SL-RN process) is pretty slow due to low productivity and high energy consumption The novel technology of co al-based iron-making with fast reduction speed at low temperature(600 ℃ or so ) was invented and introduced Its advantages include low reduction temperature, hig h productivity, low energy consumption, environment-friendly and clean iron pro duction Besides iron ore, the technology can also use ilmenite and magnetite c ontaining vanadium and titanium as raw materials This paper also put forward c oal-based low-temperature metallurgy conception
