Dynamic Tensile Properties and Retained Austenite Transformation in HSLA-TRIP Steel

To evaluate the influence of temperature and strain rate on the mechanical properties of low Si TRIP steel, the steel with the composition of 0.11C-0.62Si-1.65Mn has been tested on dynamic tensile machine. The result indicates that when the annealing temperature is near to Ac 1, more ferrite and retained austenite can be obtained. In the case, a good combination between strength and plasticity is also obtained. Elevating the testing temperature decreases the tensile strength, and at 110 ℃ the strength descends by 300 MPa. The uniform elongation reaches the maximum value when the strain rate approach 1000 s -1 and the total elongation increases with the strain rate increasing at experimental temperature 50 and 75 ℃. The energy absorption value reaches 26000 MPa·% equal to 1.5 times at 110 ℃. With the temperature rising, the stability of retained austenite gets higher and strain rate also can restrain the transformation of retained austenite.
