GEOLOGICAL PREDICTION TECHNIQUE FOR TUNNEL CONSTRUCTION UNDER COMPLEX GEOLOGICAL CONDITIONS

In recent years, there is increasing awareness on the importance of geological prediction while tunneling in China, and many tunnel projects have been constructed under assistance of selected geological prediction techniques which contribute greatly to the experience recording. The practice shows that the combined approach of TSP (Tunnel Seismic Prediction) with other prediction techniques can best meet the requirements of tunnel construction procedures and the prediction implementation costs etc. This paper presents the TSP application under complex karstic rock formations taking the Zuckerberg sewer tunnel in Germany and a highway tunnel in China as examples. Additionally, the limitations of TSP prediction technique for karst detection are discussed, and the basic ideas to solve such problems are presented.
