Research on Boundary Conditions in Forward Modeling of Ground Penetrating Radar

Absorbing boundary condition(ABC) plays a critical role in forward modeling of ground penetrating radar(GPR) using finite-difference time-domain(FDTD) method.At present,there are some absorbing boundary conditions in forward modeling of GPR,such as: Mur second order absorber,super absorber and perfect match layer.In this paper,a lossy uniaxial medium perfectly matched layer(UPML) is introduced,which is adapted to simulate ground penetrating radar in lossy medium.On the condition of the central frequency of source wave being 100MHz,500MHz and 1000MHz separately,we make a comparison with the global errors of Mur second order,generalized perfectly matched layer(GPML)and UPML absorbing boundary conditions.Results show that the accuracy of UPML absorbing boundary condition is the highest.Lastly,the method is applied to modeling GPR in several kinds of geological model,and some good results are gained.
