On the Microstructure Feature of Residual Cohesive Soil
Residual cohesive soil is a product being intensively weathered. It possesses high porosity, high cohesion and higher structural strength. Through scanning electron microscope, X-ray energy disperse analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis and a series of physicochemical analysis it is proved that the microstructure features of residual cohesive soil are very complicate. It also found out that the strength of this kind of soil originated both from the residual attractive force in the crystal structure of parent rock and from the cementation of free oxides. The engineering properties of residual cohesive soil may be evaluated reliably by the combination of microstructure and physicochemical analysis with macro-testing.
