Experimental study on the dynamic properties of rock subjected to impact loading

Impact tests are conducted on marble samples using the high gas gun apparatus with different impacting velocities in order to investigate the breakage processes and dynamic characteristics of rock-like materials when subjected to impacting loadings.There are nine sets of marble samples tested and the impacting velocities increased gradually with the range of from 126.2 m /s to 531.9m /s during testing.The primary results are obtained as follows: when the impacting velocities are relative lower,the rock samples don’t break or crush as a whole but crush locally,and with the increasing impacting velocities,more cracks will be produced.When the impacting velocities are relative higher,the rock samples break up or crush totally,and with the increasing impacting velocities,there are more inclusions of fine particles within the crushed samples,that is to say,with the increase of impacting energy,the rock samples break up more heavily.
