Primary Study on Recycled-concrete-segment Filled Steel Tubular Members

For the purposes of environmental protection,energy saving,and solid pollutant reducing,a new kind of structural member(i.e.,recycled-concrete-segment filled steel tubular members) is presented in this paper to reuse the scrap concrete components.The RCSFST members are made by filling steel tubes with new casting concrete and scrap concrete segments without concrete cover,longitudinal reinforcements and transverse steel bars.A comparison of the RCSFST members and RC members are conducted for their mechanical properties and sectional dimensions,and the construction procedures of the RCSFST members are also discussed primarily.Simulation results show that:(a) for the same cross-section dimensions,the sectional bearing capacities of axial load and bending moment for the RCSFST members are,respectively,15%~17% and 27%~39% larger than those for RC members;and(b) for the same axial load bearing capacities,the sectional dimensions of the RCSFST members are about 15%~18% less than those of RC members.The above conclusions are obtained in the case that steel materials used in the two kinds of members are the same.
