ANALYTICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF BOUNDARY AIR IN TANGENTIAL FIRING

Boundary air is an auxiliary air jet in tangential firing. As a high velocity air jet, it supports and straightens the primary air stream and thus prevents slagging on the furnace walls. In this work, the experimental results obtained on a test rig fitted with a boundary air nozzle were described. By means of a modified calculation method on similarity between cold and hot flow patterns, predictions were made on the concentration and temperature distributions in the exit section of a burner under the designed operating regime. Finally a rational design proposal was presented
