AN INVESTIGATION ON THE EFFECTS OF TIP WINGLET OF AXIAL FLOW FAN

In this paper,a numerical method is used to investigate the effects of a winglet attached to an axial fan on the performance.Different shapes of winglets on an un-shrouded axial fan are compared to show how a winglet to affect internal flow field of the fan.Numerical results show that peripheral installation position of the winglet influences fan's aerodynamic efficiency.However winglet is not efficient to improve fan's static pressure rise.When it is fixed on the pressure surface,it efficiently reduces the tip loss,which is caused by tip leakage flow mixing with main flow.At the designing condition,winglet mounted on the pressure surface makes tip leakage vortex dissipation region smaller and the vortex core closer to suction surface.Winglet mounted on the suction surface weakens the strength of tip leakage vortex but it couldn't reduce the vortex dissipation region.
