Synoptic and Climatic Analysis of Fog and Haze in Guangzhou

ZHOU Ya-jun LIU Yan (Guangzhou Central Meteorological Observatory,Guangzhou 510080,China)  
By use of the four-times-a-day data of relative humidity and other synoptic elements from Jan.1,1974 to Dec.31,2005,the climatic characteristics of fog,haze in Guangzhou and the related circulation are analyzed.Based on the sta- tistical results and the daily NCEP/NCAR data of 850 hPa height,wind and sea level pressure,the typical synoptic circulations of fog and haze are induced,and the location of the Southwest Low on 850 hPa is considered as the key factor for the occurrence of fog or haze.
