Comparative Analysis of Seasonal Drought Events in Guangzhou with Precipitation and Day without Rain

Based on the observed daily rainfall data from 1951 to 2006 in Guangzhou,the seasonal drought events are analyzed comparatively with rainfall amount and the non-rainy days.The results show that there exists significant out-phase correlation between rainfall and non-rainy days in all seasons.The correlation is the most significant in winter and the least in summer.For the seasons such as spring and summer when there are abundant rainfall,the non-rainy days is better to discriminate the seasonal drought events than the rainfall amount,while for other seasons there is no remarkable difference between the results by the two indices.
