Assistant camera focusing system based on image definition evaluation

YUAN Ke,XU Wei-hong(College of Computer & Communications, Changsha University of Science and Technology, Changsha 410076, China)  
A new evaluation function of image definition (include sharpness and contrast) is proposed inthe paper. Compared with traditional methods, the algorithm is the fastest one and precise, and withgood sensitivity similar to power-spectra algorithm. The algorithm is suitable to real-time auto focussystem. The performances of all algorithms are demonstrated with a series of images with differentdegree of defocusing level. The algorithm is applied in an actual assistant focus system of cameramodule, which captures every frame of image and displays it on screen. By making use of the newalgorithm to evaluate image definition, the operator can focus the camera module. Experience showsthat this system is very helpful for improving efficiency and control quality during mass production ofcamera modules.
