Study on 10G EPON

This paper discussed both implementations of the 10G Ethernet-based Passive Optical Network (EPON) based on (Time Division Multiple Access) TDMA and (Waveform Division Multiple Access) WDMA in the upstream, provided the protocol stacks and detailed schemes of both implementations. Because of the cost, 10Gbps downstream and 1Gbps upstream are suggested in both schemes. Then we presented operation principles of both implementations especially for the 10G EPON based on WDMA with different speed in different direction: 10Gbps broadcast in the downstream and 1Gbps point-point transfer in the upstream while behaving as multipoint-point in physical topology. The issue is analyzed based on above, and then the application fields are proposed.
