On CDIO Model under "Learning by Doing" Strategy

In order to meet the needs for innovative engineering talents in the economic globalization,"learning by doing" has become a strategy in the engineering education reform.As a model under this strategy,CDIO is a kind of learning through the whole process of an engineering project as well as a revolution against the lecture-oriented teaching model.Since 2000,CDIO model has been implemented in tens of universities in the world with MIT taking the lead.It has made prominent achievements,gained popularity among students and been highly praised in the industry circles.This paper thus introduces the 7 standards of CDIO and makes a preliminary analysis of the relation between CDIO and other two engineering reform strategies,namely,cooperation between industry and university,and internationalization.
