Effect Assessment of Octagon Gasket Sealing Flange Based on ABAQUS

In order to analyze the mechanism of octagonal gasket sealing flange and the structure strength of flange and sealing performance in sealing process,ABAQUS was adopted to establish the finite element model to simulate the real pre-tightening process.The results show that the stress on the sealing surface of octagon gasket is not evenly distributed,the stress value at the upper and lower angles of the inner two sealing surfaces is the largest and the first to yield,and the contact stress value is maximum in this position,so it's the main part of the seal,the effective sealing length is short when the minimum stud pre-tightening force is applied by the Waters method,and it is better to increase the bolt pre-tightening force to enhance the sealing effect.The flange structure strength and stiffness can meet the requirements when the maximum stud pretension force is applied,and there is a large safety margin,indicating that the flange is "safe"relative to the stud bolt.
