Anatomical determination of basilar artery in Chinese with microscope

Objective To determine the characteristics of the run and distribution and confluence of basilar artery in children and adults of Chinese.Methods The run,distribution and appearance of 57 cadavers were examined with vernier and microscope.Results The results indicated that basilar arteries joined nearby or above the sulcus of pons oblongata(62 50%±2 11% in adults,82 30%±1 92% in children).Conclusion There is a certain difference between children and adults concerning of basilar artery.As people are getting on in years,there is a tend for the formation of basilar artery going above gradually.When the basilar artery joins in lateral position,the blood in the upper part of medulla oblongata comes from basilar artery.While the basilar artery joins in a high position,the blood in the lower part of brain stem comes from both sides of vertebral artery.
