Implications of Hong Kong Higher Education Institutions’ English Enhancement Courses for Mainland China’s College English Curriculum Design in post College English era

This paper addresses the issue of college English curriculum in post College English era Mainland China via a comparative study on the College English curriculum design in higher education institutions in both mainland China and the Hong Kong SAR. The study shows that in terms of quantity, variety of the program, teaching staff strength and research support, so on and so forth, mainland China is relatively backward. The author proposes that institutions of higher education in mainland China should respond to the situation by strengthening relevant research, implementing complete elective and exemption course system, and setting up a high quality College English course supermarket.
