Synergistic Mechanism of Ethane and Ethene over Zn/HZSM-5 Zeolite

The characteristic features of acidic species and metallic lewis species in HZSM-5,Zn/HZSM-5,NaHZSM-5and NaZnHZSM-5have been studied by using the chemical andphysical methods of NH_3-TPD,IR-OH,Py-IR,CO-IR and XPS. The aromatization ofethane and ethene has been investigated over the catalysts.It is evidenced that a new kind ofactive sites──Zn ̄(2+)-L acid center was formed which lead to the decrease ofBr0wnsted acidof ZSM-5 zeolite.Zn ̄(2+)-L acid is found to be a strong acid center.Impregnation of NaOH onzeolites also leads to the decrease of Brownsted acid.The aromatization selectivity and activi-ty of ethane and ethene have a close relation with bifunctional center of Zn ̄(2+)-L acid andBrownsted acid and there is an optimum balance between the metal content and Brownstedacid.Therefore,there exists an optimum zinc content in Zn/HZSM-5 catalysts during thearomatization of ethane and ethene.
