Free Radical Copolymerization of Fullerenes(C 60/70 ) with Acrylic Acid

C 60/70 acrylic acid water soluble copolymer, whose average molecular weight is 2 000 , was synthesized by means of typical free radical copolymerization method. C 60/70 (85% C 60 , 14%C 70 , 1% high fullerenes) mixture of 45 mg and 2.5 mL acrylic acid were dissolved in 15 mL toluene. The polymerization was initiated by 30 mg AIBN at 70 ℃ under the protection of N 2 for 13 ̄15 h, yielding a red brown precipitate. The pured copolymer which is soluble in water has significantly different spectroscopic properties from C 60/70 .
