Treatment of Oral Submucous Fibrosis by Local Injection of Danshen and Triamcinolone Acetonide

Objective To investigate the effective method to treat oral submucous fibrosis with symptoms of month opening limitation and oral pain caused by feeding stimulation. Methods A mixt solution of Danshen and triamcinolone acetonide was injected into submucous tissue of involved bilateral buccal mucous membrane and pterygomandibular ligament region. The injection was performed once a week. 10 sessions were repeated within a therapy period. The color and elasticity of lesion mucous membrane were observed. The painful symptom and mouth opening degree were recorded. Results The symptom of oral pain was released to various extents in all 35 patients. And the mouth opening limitation in 29 patients was improved obviously. The color and elasticity of lesion oral mucous membrane tended to normal gradually after several injections. Only 6 cases showed no improvement in mouth opening degree. Conclusion Satisfying treatment results of oral submucous fibrosis were acquired by Danshen combined with triamcinolone acetonide injection. It is demonstrated that this therapeutic scheme could be widely adopted clinically.
