Objective To investigate the expression of Th1/Th17 cell related factors in post-treatment endodontic disease. Methods The periapical tissue samples of 12 cases of RCT in failure were collected. The expressions of Th1 /Th17( IL-17 and INF-γ) were detected by immunohistochemical stain method. Then the optical density value in positive staining area was tested by Image Pro Plus and statistically analysed. Results Samples of these 12 cases were confirmed pathologically as apical granuloma or apical cyst, respectively,in 2 and 10 cases. The expression of IL-17 and INF-γwere both detected in 12 cases of diseased tissue by immunohistochemical method. IL-17 protein expression was higher than that of INF-γ( P 0. 05). Conclusion Both Th1 / Th17 cell related factors were detected in periapical tissue of post-treatment endodontic disease,Th17 inflammation might play a major role in the PED process.
