Disparity of Charge Structure and Lightning Characteristics in Different Thunderclouds in Gansu Area

Data analyses shows that the charge distribution of thunderclouds in the Gansu area presents an electric tripole with an additional lower positive charge layer near the cloud base, which is horizontally extensive with quite a large amount of electric charge. However, the lightning types and the characteristics of lightning behavior in one thundercloud may differ from those in another. There is no negative cloud to ground flashes (NCGF) in some thunderstorms, but some do have NCGF. Furthermore, among the latter, some have only P type NCGF, while others have both C type and P type NCGF. The disparty mentioned above are related to the differences in charge structure between individual thunderclouds in Gansu area.
