Application for Virtual Reality Technology in Three-dimensional GIS of Transmission Network

Using virtual reality technology and GIS technology, this paper presents design and realize the three-dimensional georgraphy information system. Virtual reality technology has merits such as immersion, interaction and imagination. In the system, VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) is used to build 3D virtual reality scenes, and the Java program is used to control 3D scenes. Combination of VRML program and Java program realize the interactive three-dimensional transmission lines network. JDBC-ODBC bridges are exerted to connect JAVA program with the database for data transmission, so the virtual reality scenes of VRML is connected to space database and the parameter of power system apparatus. The method of building different models is studied in this paper. In this three-dimensional geographic information system, the connection of apparatus in power system's virtual reality scenes and those data in database for advance analyzing is resolved. Meanwhile, in this transmission lines management system, the following functions are provided for the users, query for the information, devise a new transmission lines and analysis the system.
