Simulation Analysis of PD UHF Signal Propagation in Transformers

Ultra-high-frequency(UHF)technique,by detecting partial discharge electromagnetic radiation signals to achieve the equipment partial discharge detection,has perfect anti-interference ability and high detection sensitivity,and it is necessary to study the propagation characteristics of electromagnetic waves inside the transformers when researching transformers discharge(PD)UHF detection method.In this paper,a computer model of the transformers internal structures was built up based on a reasonable simplification of the transformer body.A PD source was simulated by Gauss-current element,various simulation parameters were reasonably set,and then,the UHF electromagnetic waves propagation in transformers was simulated and studied using Finite Difference Time Domain(FDTD)method.The simulation results explain the propagation characteristics of electromagnetic radiation signals between the windings and the core,the electromagnetic waves propagation attenuation and distortion caused by the core,and the propagation of the different widths and different amplitudes of the electromagnetic waveforms in the windings and the core structure based on contrast analysis of the time-domain and frequency-domain waveforms.
