Hydrophilic Improvement of Polymers Treated by Homogeneous Nanosecond Pulse Dielectric Barrier Discharge in Atmospheric Air

Dielectric barrier discharge(DBD) plasma can significantly modify the surface of polymers but has limitation of the non-uniform treatment at atmospheric pressure.Hence,we adopted homogeneous discharge plasma produced by DBD,which was excited by repetitive unipolar nanosecond pulses in atmospheric air,to investigate the application of surface treatment of polyethylene terephthalate(PET) and polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) under different experimental conditions.Results show that homogeneous DBD efficiently improves the hydrophilicity of the polymer surface,and the treatment efficiency is closely related to the treatment time,applied voltage,applied pulse repetition frequency(PRF),and gap spacing.The good treatment effect can be obtained under high applied voltage and PRF,long treatment time and narrow air gap.The experimental data can provide a good reference for the design optimum of polymer treatment.
