Improved Rouard′s Analysis Method for Fiber Gratings

A method for fiber grating analysis is proposed.This method combines the merits of the transfer (T) matrix method with the Rouards method.Fiber grating was treated as a multiple thin film stack.Each film was represented by two 2×2 T matrix (the interface T matrix and the medium layer T matrix).Multiplying all the matrixes we can get a 2×2 T matrix.From this matrix the characteristics of the grating can be obtained.So it avoids solving the coupled mode differential equations compared with the T matrix method and is more straightforward and flexible than Rouards method.Simulation results of several kinds of fiber gratings were provided.Effects of the selection of simulation parameters on the results accuracy were also discussed.
