Determination of Carboxyl Content in Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose by FT-IR Spectroscopy

Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC) is converted to CMC-H,treated with concentrated nitric acid.Then CMC-H's characteristic infrared absorption at 1735cm-1 was selected as the characteristic peak.The baseline of 1918.9cm-1-1529.3cm-1 is used,to avoid the influence of moisture content on the measurement of 1735cm-1 peak height.KSCN was used as a internal standard and a good linear standard curve has been got(R2 = 0.980).The results indicate that carboxyl content in sodium carboxymethyl cellulose can be analyzed by the method of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR).
