NOVEL ORGANIC/INORGANIC NANO-COMPOSITE OF POLYETHYLENE: STRUCTURE AND PROPERTY

A novel methodology for the preparation of polyethylene/palygorskite nano-A novel methodology for the preparation of PE based nano-composites was proposed in this paper. A polyethylene/palgorskite n ano-composite was prepared via in-situ coordinated polymerization approach. The resulted organic/inorganic nano-composites exhibit many interesting prope rties. The relationships among the preparation method, structure and properties of the obtained nano-composite were investigated. It was found that the fibers of palygorskite are uniformly dispersed in the polyethylene matrix and there ar e strong interaction between the fibers and the matrix, which constitutes the ke y factor for the improved mechanical properties. Some gel was detected in the co mposites, which was attributed to the formation of comb-like structure of p olyethylene chains on the palygorskite fibers.
