ADVANCES IN THE RESEARCH AND APPLICATION OF SUCROSE-BASED POLYMERS

Sucrose-based polymers can be prepared by chemical techniques and enzymatic method. These polymers are a good approach to develop nontoxic, biodegradable, highly absorbent materials for use in applications such as general water absorbents, water treatment additives and biomedical devices, also as plant growth regulator and fruit/vegetable preservative agent. Sucrose-based polymer is of a novel type advanced materials with excellent properties, and is becoming an increasingly important area of polymer materials science and engineering. Advances in the research and application of sucrose-based polymers were reviewed in this paper. The structural characteristic and preparation methods of sucrose-based polymers were discussed in detail.
