Influence of Nano Na-Montmorillonite on Structure and Performance of Carboxymethylcellulose Packaging Film

The nano Na-montmorillonite(NNMMT)was filled into carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC)films by solution intercalation technique in order to reinforce modified CMC-based films.The influence of NNMMT content on mechanical properties,barrier properties,appearance of the CMC composite package materials was evaluated,and structures of the composite membranes were analyzed by FT-IR,XRD and SEM.The results indicate that the strong coordination and hydrogen bond intermolecular interaction between NNMMT filler and CMC matrix play an important role in film strength,and NNMMT is uniformly distributed into the CMC matrix in form of exfoliated structure.The addition of NNMMT improves the tensile strength and barrier capacity of NNMMT/CMC composite package significantly at relative humidity.With the NNMMT amounts increasing from 0%to 6%,the tensile strength increases from 19.53 MPa to 35.24 MPa,while the reduction of air permeability,moisture absorption,water leakage time is 77.27%,65.82% and 59.59% respectively in comparison with the CMC film.Furthermore,NNMMT/CMC composite membranes have a higherΔE,Land b values in comparison with the CMC film,and the composite films show a decrease in transparency as NNMMT content increases.
