The grafting reaction of dibutylmaleate(DBM)onto molten polypropylene(PP)has been discussed. In the reaction between DBM and PP carried out in the presence of dicumyl peroxide(DCPO)as initiator,the influence of the composition of the reaction mixture and of some reaction condition on the degree of grafting of products has been investigated. By means of melt index,gel content measurements and Haake torque rheometer, it was proved that the presence of DCPO had a great effect on the degradation of PP,and there were little crosslinking of PP in the products and homopolymerization of DBM. The IR spectra and the mechanism of grafting reaction have also been discussed.
