DYNAMIC LIGHT SCATTERING INVESTIGATION OF GELATION IN ALGINATE AQUEOUS SYSTEM

Dynamic laser light scattering was used to investigate the gelation of AG aqueous (1 mg/mL) by dialysing in 0.1 mol/L CaCl2 aqueous system. The average decay rates (linewidth) Γ decreased pronouncedly during the gelation and the lg plots of β1/2g(1)(τ) vs τ were nonlinear, which indicated complex motion models in this aqueous system, where g(1)(τ) and τ were normalized electric field autocorrelation function and delay time, respectively. Finally, the plot of characteristic average relaxation time τc (=Γ-1) vs dialysing time t was also given, which described the kinetics process of this gelation quantitatively.
