INVESTIGATION ON CRYSTAL PROPERTIES OF PP g HEMA PREPARED BY SUSPENSION GRAFT COPOLYMERIZATION

PP g HEMA was prepared utilizing the technique of suspension graft copolymerization. The crystal properties of the grafted copolymer were studied by DSC, WAXD, crystal growth speedometer and crossed polarizing microscope. The crystal morphology of grafted and pure PP was compared. The graft reaction take place mainly in the amorphous area of PP crystal. The melting temperature of grafted PP is almost the same as that of pure PP. The crystal degree of grafted PP decreases little. The crystal dimension of grafted PP decreases to some extent. It also showed that HEMA which was grafted to PP deterred the growth of PP crystal. The higher the graft degree, the more difficult the spherocrystal formed.
