Fundamentals of Agricultural Water Saving

TANG Deng yin, LUO Yi, YU Qiang (Yucheng Comprehensive Experiment Station,CAS,Beijing 100101, China)  
The key point of agricultural water saving is to increase the water use efficiency of crops and the ratio of water use during transportation and application. This paper discusses the theory of water use efficiency and its relationship with environmental factors at the levels of leaf, canopy, and yield from the theoretical point of view, and the possible ways of increasing water use efficiency according to the theory . It is emphasized that the fundamentals of agricultural water saving as well as the corresponding technology involves an integrated theoretical system of multiple disciplines. At last, some proposals are made for the strengthening of agricultural water saving research and technology development.
