Direct Formula for Computing Critical Depth in City-gate Cross-sections

Transcendental equations have to be solved for computing critical depth in city-gate cross-sections,which has no analytic solutions in theory.Approximate analytic solution was proposed based on the theory of optimal fitting,thus obtaining the direct formula for computing critical depth in city-gate crosssections.The results indicated that within the scope of practical engineering,maximum absolute relative error of critical depth values was 0.115% and average absolute relative error was 0.032%.The newly established formula had definite physical conception,brief form with high accuracy and wide practical range compared with other presently available formula.
