A Study on China's GHG Emission from Waste Sector:Trend and Peak Value

As one of the main sources of greenhouse gas emission,methane,carbon dioxide,nitrous oxide and other greenhouse gases emit in the process of waste disposing.In recent years,with rapid economic growth and urbanization in China,waste generation and its GHG emission have been enlarging fast.This paper calculates carbon emission generated by waste sector in China and predicts its peak value,using FOD method suggested by"IPCC 2006 Guide".The result indicates that China's carbon emission by waste sector has been rapidly increasing in the time period of 1981 to 2009,along with the enlarging scale of waste generation by industries as well as the urban and rural areas.The peak value of carbon emission of China' waste sector arrives at 2024 with the amount of 33.236 million tons.Compared with developed countries,there is still gap between China's waste disposition technology and its business pattern also needs to be improved.It calls for industrial upgrading and effective administrative system to reduce waste generation and accelerate the arrival of its peak value of GHG emission.
