The Role of Abscisic Acid in Stomatal Responses to Drought Stress

The content of ABA(abscsic acid)in plant leaves increased dramaticallywhen there was a drought stress,thus,leading to the closing stomata. This is the plantadaptable to drought stress. ABA from the leaf mesophyll cells,roots or guard cells canbe recognized by the receptor in plasma membeane of guard cells thereby to promotestomatal closure and to inhibit the open of stomata by Ca~(2+)-indepedent or Ca~(2+)-de-pendent mechanisms. ABA also has a long-term effect on stomatal movement by en-hancing the protein synthesis and altering stomatal mechanism.
