Ammonia Volatilization from Calcareous Soil Ⅱ. The Relationship between Ammonia Loss from N Fertilizers and Applied Methods

Hargroue's method was ued to study the effects of nitrogen fenilizer forms, applyingdepth, and the combination of N fertilizer with P fertilizer application on N loss by volatilizationfrom a Loessial Soil. The results obtained show that different forms of N fertilizers had differentvolatilization rates. Ammonium bicarbonate was the largest in ammonia volatilization followed byammonium nitrate, ammonium chloride and ammonium sulphate. The placement of fertilizershad great influence on volatilization with N loss being reduced by 80.3% and 92.7%, respec-tively, when fertilizers were placed at 5 cm and 10 cm as compared with surface application.Ammonium loss from ammonium bicarbonate seemed to have no relationship with soil moisturewhile the ammonia loss from ammonium sulphate was decreased with soil moisture increase:when soil moisture increased from 13% to 19%, the correlation coefficient between the per-centage of ammonium loss from ammonium sulphate and soil moisture was -0.9685; when soilmoisture was more than 19%,the volatilized Percentage tended to be stable. The combination ofapplying N fertilizer with superphosphate seemed to have a certain effect on protecting ammoniavolatilization for ammonium bicarbonate, but there was no such effect for ammonium sulphate.
