Research on Soil Tillage Technique for Accumulating and Conserving Moisture in Winter Fallow Fields on the Loess Tableland Areas

In accordance with the precipitation behavier of the loess tableland areas,soiltillage technique for accumulating and conserving moisture in winter fallow field treated withforrowing and ridging with a definite distance,covering the ridges with plastic film after landpreparation in the previous autumn and planting crops in the following year is the most effec-tive soil water saving measure to plant crops with high efficiency and high yield. Experimen-tal results for many years show that this tillage technique has a significant effect on accumu-lating and conserving soil moistue,increasing soil temperature,improving soil environmentand microclimate of farmland,water use efficience and raising soil ability to resist drought soas to make crops grow vigrously and yield increase by a wide margin. In general,there is anincrease of over 30% in yields as against that in bareland. Accordingly, this technique is ofgreat value to be demonstrated and extended.
