Present research on monitoring drought with thermal IR remote sensing techniques in China

LI Yachun, WANG Zhihua (Nanjing Institute of Meteorology, Nanjing 210044, China)  
The thermal IR techniques have demonstrated their potentials and broad prospects in measurement of soil moisture and monitoring of drought by remote sensing.This paper introduces the basic method of these techniques in the first, and then reviews the main progresses made in the world. The present research situation and advances on measuring soil moisture and monitoring drought by remote sensing with these techniques in China are discussed and some advice is given out as well.
